Motherhood and Wellness

I have been on a wellness journey since 2015. I had worked out in the past, lost weight for our wedding, and luckily have always loved eating healthy but I never understood, studied or fully focused on total wellness. It is not an overnight fix. It’s all about balance and constantly learning to understand what that word means to you and for your mind and body. I have said this before, and I will continue to say that I am not an expert in this area, however I can speak from experience as a busy mom on how I strive for total body wellness day in and day out. I am breaking down what I strive to do on a daily basis so that I can continue to play and live a long life with my family.

Hydration

Hydration is the replacement of body fluids lost through sweating, exhaling, and eliminating waste. On average, the body loses and needs to replace about 2-3 quarts of water daily through food and fluid intake. There are so many perks to drinking water and hydrating but to name a few, hydration improves brain function and gut health, and overall wellness top priority! I make sure to drink a large glass of water every morning before my coffee. I will sometimes even add chia seeds, fresh lemon and sea salt to that glass. Mid-day I include a electrolyte powder packet and overall strive for half my weight in ounces to avoid dehydration.

Movement

Movement is the act of changing physical location or position and much like hydration, the perks are similar! I enjoy a good and tough workout 2-3 times a week but I really try to be active every day. Moving my body for a minimum of 30 minutes, even if that’s just a nice walk! It’s interesting that when I worked in an office setting 10 years ago, my body was in much worse state. My work these days both at home and at births can be very physically but that is what our bodies are designed to do, move!

Protein + Fiber + High Quality Vitamins

Our body needs protein to build muscle and fiber to have a healthy gut! Make sure you are getting a good amount of both every day! Not only do I focus on protein and fiber in my whole foods, I also supplement protein and fiber through wellness products that I love and respect.

As much as I’d like to think I get all of my vitamins and minerals through food, I know that would be silly. Even if I did, our crops are different these days and sadly always depleting. I also know that not all vitamins are treated equal, meaning you should know how your vitamins are sourced and their absorption rate. We can take all the things but if they aren’t breaking down and accepted by our system, we are wasting money. My daily vitamin routine includes a multi-vitamin, fish oil, probiotic, vitamin d paired with calcium, and what I consider most important, an immune booster with zinc and vitamin c. I take others like collagen, an antioxidant and magnesium as well.

Body Work

This is probably my newest addition to my wellness routine and something I wish I would have included earlier in my practice. Body work for me includes chiropractic care, massage, abdominal massage, acupuncture, and so much more! I have always prioritized chiropractic care but from the standpoint of a quick fix when my body hurt. I now approach it from a maintenance, selfceare and proactive standpoint. Meaning I schedule a visit once a month at a minimum as part of my routine. I also try to get a massage once every other month, sometimes stretching to every three months but I’ve been actively working on improving this. The results have been incredible and the feeling of prioritizing my life and my body feels really good.

Positivity

I have always been a pretty positive person and I feel like that has definitely helped on my wellness journey. We can easily get discouraged in life whenever we are trying to achieve something, especially when it is hard but where does that get us? Nowhere! If this doesn’t come natural to you, I suggest practicing positive affirmations. Extend yourself grace, celebrate the wins, and just always get back on the train when you fall off. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about continuing! Your future self will thank you.

I hope hearing about my wellness journey and what it is that I do on a daily basis was helpful. Whether you are looking for encouragement or just to fine-tune what you are already doing! I am always open to a conversation, suggestions, or sharing more about what it is I do and the products that I use! Now, go on and Be Well!
