Preparing your Children for Childbirth

We often talk to clients about the idea or possibility of having their older children at their birth. Or some clients have children who are concerned or scared of the birth process. We are all about education and resources here at How2Mom, so we thought it would be helpful to share the books and video resources we often share with our clients.

Books

Depending on your situation and the age of your older children, books can be a great place to educate while normalizing physiological birth, and by opening up conversations and questions that they may have. Here are some wonderful books that can be helpful:

Videos

If appropriate, videos can be a great visual for normalizing what birth can look like and for giving your child an opportunity to see how they respond to witnessing birth. I think this is a good practice if you desire your older children to be at your birth, just so that that experience isn’t the first time they witness physiological birth.
