What is a Birth Doula?
The term Doula is a Greek word meaning, “to mother the mother”. Doulas are women who are passionate about supporting couples during the birthing process. Birth doulas are trained to provide continuous, one-on-one care, as well as information, physical support, and emotional support to birthing persons and their partners. The doula is a part of the team providing physical and emotional support with the medical staff. The doula provides non-clinical care for the woman. Doulas do not perform any clinical or medical tasks.
