Nutritional Snacks for Labor

As a Birth Doula, I am constantly reminding my clients to eat and drink as long as they can during labor.

Even if I can’t physically be with you during your labor, let this be your encouragement to fuel your body for the most work it has ever done. I will never understand the rule some hospitals have in place for no food or drink for a mom while in labor! This is not backed by evidence by the way, and it would be like running a marathon without fuel. Ask a runner, would they every consider not drinking or eating in preparation or during their run. NO WAY!

Your mind, your body, your muscles, and your baby all have to sustain labor which can be a long process. And we do that by using fuel we receive from FOOD! Please keep in mind that our body does best when we consume nutritional dense whole foods, focusing on high protein, high fiber, carbs, and healthy fats!
